THE GRASSI MUSEUM OF APPLIED ARTS
... offers insight into more than 3000 years of design history. It is subdivided into three permanent exhibitions and also regularly holds temporary special exhibitions. The Museum is accommodated in a remarkable, historic building.

ANTIQUITY TO HISTORICISM
The first tour starts with the three permanent exhibitions – 2,000 square metres with 30 rooms and smaller cabinets containing outstanding objects of European art and cultural history. Here the viewers interest is enlightened to follow the changes in form, the purpose of objects and how they integrate into historical contexts. Particular highlights are shown in the various historical room settings.

ASIAN ART
A major part of the Asian Art collection is presented in the gallery of the Pillar Hall and in two cabinets. Here on display, in addition to ceramics and lacquer, there are Chinese metal works of the last 1,500 years and a collection of sword ornaments.

ART NOUVEAU TO THE PRESENT DAY
the upper floor focuses on the development from international Art Nouveau to Art Deco. This is followed by Modernism determined by Functionalism which is represented in particular by the Bauhaus, as well as Scandinavian and German product design of the 1930s and 40s.
The main focuses on the ground floor are the system design of the 1960s and 70s and the colourful pop era. Recent purchases made at the Grassi trade exhibitions bring the tour up until the present day. At the end of the tour, visitors can get involved in themselves in design processes by taking part in an interactive 360° room installation.

We wish you a pleasant visit to our museum - or an inspiring time with our online services!
